FLYING ‘ECONOMY’? THINK AGAIN!

cargo hold

Everyone knows running an airline is a cutthroat business. Rising fuel costs and the demand for even cheaper seats means air carriers must continually think outside the box in order to stay in business while calming shareholders by offering them regular dividends. It therefore comes as no surprise to me that in future, the Airbus A380 will offer an even cheaper set of seats which will be called ‘choice economy’, known in the Industry as…flying freight! That’s right, should you wish, you too can fly in the cargo hold, along with your luggage and emergency rations destined for the Third World. Who says its wrong to treat people as cattle? As Bette Davis said as Margo Channing in ‘All About Eve’ (1950), “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night!”
