Just heard the christening of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new baby, Princess Charlotte will be marked by a range of commemorative coins. Oh how the other half live! Merely by an accident of birth, one baby becomes a princess, quickly becoming acclimatised to the best things in life, while another baby, born to a pauper, will be raised on a ‘sink’ estate, destined to be sexually abused and addicted to crack cocaine. Clearly God doesn’t do fair? And while the death of an elderly princess may be commemorated with flags at half mast, a services held at St Paul’s Cathedral or in Westminster Abbey, followed by glowing obituaries, the death of the pauper’s baby will go unnoticed. The abominations of life do sometimes keep me up at night!
