thin red line

The British Army has been scaled down by more than 20,000, three years ahead of target. Meanwhile, it has been suggested, that in the event of civil unrest/riot, the government is prepared to put 5,000 troops on the streets. Really? Where are they going to get them from, the catering corp? The famous ‘thin red line’ that policed the British Empire for hundreds of years has all but disappeared! As far as a possible, future European Union Army is concerned, why on earth would British armed forces want to join with either our historical enemies, or with countries who cannot hold the line? You know what they say, don’t you? ‘A friend in need is a f**king pain in the ass!’
