falling over

Tendring District Council in Essex hopes to extend its Careline service that offers assistance to 3000 pensioners living independently at home, and who already pay £21:60 per month. Careline service users may well have to pay an additional £25:92 per annum in the event they fall over and need help getting back to their feet! Now some might say, this one-off ‘pick-me-up’ charge is reasonable. Of course it could be argued, a) the elderly paid health service taxes all their working lives, and b) it is a hell of a lot cheaper for the district council to service the elderly in their own homes than to re-house them in residential care homes at a cost of £1,000 per week per person!
