Experts from the Department of the Environment and DEFRA have warned developers not to build new homes on flood plains. A bit late, isn’t it? Developers with a keen eye for profit have been choking farmers with money for years in order to snaffle up parcels of land upon which they build housing estates! Shouldn’t the Government insist developers construct ‘useable’ flood defence systems around new estates, and have them inspected before the first house is shown? The chances are, no two experts can agree which is the best flood defence system to use! Apparently, dredging rivers that haven’t been dredged in 70-years wouldn’t make any difference, would take years to dredge and cost several billion pounds, money the Government prefers to send abroad as foreign aid!
