Sixty-three-year-old grandmother and
psychopath…psychotherapist, Jane First, is the first humanist hospital chaplain to be appointed to an NHS hospital in this country. Specifically, Leicester’s Hospitals NHS Trust, which governs three hospitals. More and more people seem to be opting for humanist (non-religious) burial services in the UK. Why have so many people fallen out of love with religion? Perhaps it has something to do with a general belief that religion causes many more problems than it solves? Or is it that, living as we do in an increasingly ‘technology’ dominated Western World, that is perceived as having nothing whatsoever to do with faith and prayer? I wonder how many computers boot up with Jesus or St. Peter screensavers?
