WAS LONDON MAYORAL ELECTION FIXED?

golden ticket

Tory-run Barnet Council issued out-of-date voting lists to staff at 150 polling stations, resulting in the ineligibility of 236,000 residents to vote in the recent London mayoral race. Sadiq Khan was elected by 1,310,143 votes to Zac Goldsmith’s 994,614 votes. Bearing in mind many denied the vote would certainly have cast their preference for Zac Goldsmith, might not the gentleman been elected as mayor? A challenge may be made in the High Court, however it will fail. This reminds me of the storyline in ‘The Good Wife’, in which lawyer Alicia Florrik won the race to become District Attorney, only to be denied the position after it was discovered one of the polling machines had been tampered with to favour her. Oh how life imitates art! Newly appointed London mayor, ecstatic Sadiq Khan, stated he feels like he has won the golden ticket. Indeed!
