speak English

A group of 34 ultra-orthodox Jewish teenagers from Stamford Hill, north London, had to be rescued by a 50-strong RNLI lifeboat crew after being trapped on a coastal path below the White Cliffs of Dover, after going on a late night stroll when the tide came in. From my experience (as a Jew), ultra-orthodox Jews born in Britain mostly speak Hebrew and Yiddish, rarely English, and when they do, it is with an accent. Having taken out their cell phones to dial ‘999’ and call for help, it must have been one of the few times this year any of the teenagers actually conversed in English! Hey, I wonder what ‘get me the f**k outta here,’ sounds like in Yiddish?
